The programme “Sonorous Lithuania” may be described as the musical chronicle of restored Lithuania. It is dedicated to Lithuanian vocal masterpieces – songs and arias from the operas and musicals, which have become tokens of their time. The audience will be offered a selection of works by Lithuanian classics and living composers, as well as amusing stories from the composers’ lives, accompanied by videos.
This programme features opera soloist Liudas Mikalauskas who often includes Lithuanian music in his performances. A bass with exceptional timbre and histrionic talent, he is frequently earning public and critical acclaim as one of the best young Lithuanian singers. He currently sings a number leading and character roles in the productions of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius and all other music theatres across the country. He frequently appears as a soloist with chamber and symphony orchestras in the performances of large vocal-instrumental works. He is artistic director of annual music festivals in his native Tauragė, Paberžė and Skaruliai. He also frequently travels the length and breadth of Lithuania with concerts of popular vocal music, which came as a consequence of his participation in the television project “Triumphal Arch” where he was awarded the “Golden Voice” title.
Another singer in this programme, soprano Julija Karaliūnaitė, also appears in the productions of the LNOBT and in contemporary music projects. The singers will be accompanied by pianist Birutė Asevičiūtė who is also a great opera and contemporary music enthusiast.
