Programme “Silvery Sounds” will enchant the audience with celestial silvery timbres. Presented by the Lithuanian Flute Quartet, this concert will also feature soprano Gunta Gelgotė who will sing some pieces in a duo with her husband, flautist Giedrius Gelgotas. This duo will perform a number of works written especially for them, demonstrating the amazing coloratura soprano and ethereal flute sonorities. At this concert, commemorating the centenaries of modern Lithuanian and Latvian states, kinship between the two countries will be represented not only by this family duo but also through the selection of works composed by Latvian and Lithuanian composers. In addition to classical and romantic pieces, the programme offers a couple of world premieres. One is being written by Gundega Šmite and Dmitris Maronidis from Latvia, while the other is composed by Latvian composer Mārtiņš Viļums who has been living in Lithuania for twenty years. The Lithuanian line will be extended further by the piece for flute quartet written by Jonas Tamulionis.

Another highlight in the programme is the Lithuanian premiere of Requiem for a Glacier for flute quartet and tape by Swiss composer Andreas Zurbriggen. It was inspired by the melting glaciers on the peaks of the Alps, which the composer daily observes though his windows. As a matter of interest, the work’s world took place in the ice cave. Zurbriggen is also a musicologist and journalist, sometimes contributing articles about Lithuanian music.
