The brand new Latvian Atomos Saxophone Quartet, founded and led by one of the most proactive and ingenious saxophonists in Riga, Lithuanian Arvydas Kazlauskas, is to make its debut at the Klaipėda Concert Hall. Its repertoire embraces a variety of genres and styles – from spunky rhythm-driven contemporary pieces to masterfully composed and arranged tunes. Where should we look for a wealth of such tunes? In operas and musicals, of course!
The programme “Metropolitan and Broadway” was specially devised to pander to the audience’s relish for opera and musical highlights. It notably includes popular numbers from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet who did not live to see its success. We will be also offered a selection of buoyant melodies from the operas by Gioachino Rossini. The programme further highlights the music by American composers, offering fragments from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. It will be rounded off with the public’s favourite tunes from the popular Broadway musical Les Misérables written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil after Victor Hugo’s eponymous novel.
